Because of a small fender bender that has resulted in a lot of ridiculousness between my car (driven by my husband, I was at work) and a taxi, and our financial status still being a giant shit sandwich, we basically are going to be jumping over the center console of my car for a couple of weeks.

Since the front door won't open, because the driver's side fender is squished in a way that has it jammed shut.

It is not enough damage to warrant an insurance claim; the repair is going to come out under the deductible. But he still has to drive to work every day and so there's absolutely no way we can afford a rental (which my insurance doesn't actually cover*, so it's definitely not worth raising our premiums to file a claim for a $350-plus-labor fender).

Which means he gets to climb over the center console multiple times a day until we can not have the car for multiple days in a row, meaning the next time he has two+ days off in a row, which ... is in two weeks.

My husband is not a small man in basically any dimension. I mean. I guess it's a workout?

* Up until about two months ago, we had two cars, and I was the only driver of this one (I'm still the sole owner). Since mine is a 2017, we kept it instead of Brady's 2009 car. I have a very, very intense fear of driving other people's cars and won't even borrow mom's and was anxious about driving Brady's, so there was no point in paying for rental coverage that I would never use. Since we got rid of the other car I just hadn't changed it. When finances are sorted out a bit I'll add it back.

But I mean ... at least my car is a 2017. If this had been my previous car a dented fender would have totaled the entire thing. The car is still worth SUBSTANTIALLY MORE than the fender and also it drives fine and looks fine on 3/4 sides.

My last two accidents were a head-on collision and a sideswipe from an 18 wheeler that destroyed 2/4 doors, so I will TAKE the fender damage and taxi and the nice taxi driver (who was also not responsible, the responsible party was a truck that hightailed it away rather than help) and the nice taxi company owner who was okay with not calling the police and landing everyone stuck there for 3 hours in order to not deal with any of that.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that, but glad it's not as big a deal as it could be otherwise.

Yeah, historically my car accident experience is hugely catastrophic, so as it goes this is fine. Last summer I was in a head on collision and broke my sternum, so something that doesn't even require an insurance claim is almost a relief. I'd rather have not had it happen at all, but! Life.
