iPhone users!

I do not yet have an iPhone, but I'm going to be getting an 11 in the next few weeks - time to leave Android behind as my retinal issues have progressed to the point where I really need the accessibility features. I'm also more comfortable with Apple's security at this point.

(This is not the post to try to change my mind, I've spent so much money on Android apps over the years it was a hard choice.)

I've used an iPad for many years, so I'm familiar with the basics, but I've never used it for contacts. All my contacts are in Google, so here is the basic question: since I have a Mac, can I use my computer to enter things into contacts on it and have them import to my phone through iCloud, and will it do that automatically?

I don't mind re-inputting them, but I do mind either having to use a phone keyboard (I'm really poor at typing on them and I'm not used to the iPhone one at all - part of the reason I waited until now was previously iPhones were too small for me to even be able to use functionally but the 11 seems big enough!) and even worse is voice recognition. I absolutely despise using voice rec tech, and I realize that the more my vision goes the more I am screwed, but I'm a former selective mutism kid and I just really hate talking. :/

I’m about to ping a techie friend of mine for a better answer to this question but when I switched from an Android phone to an iPhone 11, my workaround was to manually enter contacts on my iPad and then they automatically synced. I also find typing on phones to be a chore. But I’m hoping there’s a better way.

Yes: you would go to the webportal for iCloud and enter them there and then sync.

I can’t test this as the Android I had around refuses to turn on now, but this is an Apple app for helping move from Android and says contacts are included: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201196

Can confirm that you can set up macOS Contacts to sync with iOS Contacts.

Looks like you've already been pointed the right way, but yeah this is absolutely doable and you should actually be able to import your contacts from Google into Contacts; it's been a long time since I did that, but that's how I seeded my iPhone contacts! I actually have an iPhone, an iPad, and a Macbook Air and sync several apps across them all, including my Contacts, using iCloud. It's super useful.

(Like, Apple has various issues, but their interfaces work and sync so well for me for my mobile devices that I haven't regretted it at all.)

I see you found options, but as a fellow low vision person using iPhone 11, I have to say it’s been a good experience. (I got the purple one. ^_^)

Less secure, but you can use 3rd party keyboards. I don’t, but some have found them useful. Hope you enjoy it!
