delight: (gold star)
I just told this story in a Twitter group DM and while I did DW post when this actually happened, I feel as if this is a really good sum-up of one of those "wtf are you serious" events in my life. These things really do happen to everyone, I just tend to be good at telling anecdotes, much like both of my parents and my uncle (who married my dad's sister, we are not even actually related) are/were.

It's the intensely shortened version, but the context was how much we do not like people coming into our homes ...

I'm afraid of the grocery delivery people and panic at the doorbell. I'm the worst. I just never answer it and I almost ended up asphyxiated because of that once.

I had a migraine and wanted to ignore the knocking. This was when we lived up in North Troy. The knocking was the fire department telling everyone to leave the building.

Then when they got the master key to check to make sure my apartment wasn't on fire, I dragged ass into the living room because THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS IN THERE, and they were like uh... we knocked?

Yes, I know, I'm sick and I thought you were FedEx, sorry.

The apartment across the hall was on fire.
